The unification of eleven different museums, the National Gallery, four house museums and two research centers in one system in 2004 formed the Georgian National Museum (GNM), the largest museum complex in the country today.
The Georgian National Museum presents internationally significant collections of art and dynamic, changing exhibitions, providing audiences with inspiration and knowledge of the wonderful world of culture, art, science and education. The evidences and proof of the oldest human existence in Eurasia are displayed together with magnificent Medieval Christian art, stunning gold and silver jewelry from the ancient land of Colchis, spectacular modern and contemporary paintings of Georgian artists and masterpieces of the Oriental, Western European and Russian decorative arts.

Opening Hours - Museums are open from 10 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Sunday. Closed on Mondays and public holidays. Galleries are cleared fifteen minutes before closing.

The Georgian National Museum was established at the end of 2004 by a Presidential decree. Its origins, however, date back to the founding of the Museum of the Caucasian Department of the Russian Royal Geographic Society in 1852.

The establishment of the Georgian National Museum is considered to be the beginning of structural, institutional, and legal reforms in Georgia's cultural heritage sector. The reform envisages the introduction of modern management policies and the establishment of a uniform administrative system. This initiative aims at elaborating a coherent museum mission, improving conservation standards for preserved collections, strengthening the educational programs centered on the museum's resources, and coordinating academic and museum activities.



Museum of Soviet Occupation
Soviet Occupation Hall is located at the 4th floor of S. Janashia Museum of Georgia. 
Here, visitors can encounter the state's personal files of "subversive" Georgian public figures, orders to shoot or exile, and other artifacts representing Soviet-era cultural and political repression in Georgia. The exhibition hall is equipped with monitors, where visitors can watch documentaries of various historical events. The exhibition also includes one of the train carriages in which the participants of the national uprising of 1924 were executed.It is also dedicated to the history of the anti-occupational, national-liberation movement of Georgia and to the victims of the Soviet political repression throughout this period.

Archaeological Treasury
Georgian National Museum Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia presents exhibition "Archaeological Treasure". Goldsmith works discovered during archaeological excavations, representing the development of Georgian culture between 3th millennium BC and 4 h century AD are being displayed at the exhibition. 
Archeological Treasury
Examples of work by early Georgian goldsmiths were discovered during archeological excavations, and are currently reserved in the archeological treasury. The exhibition presents three periods development in the history of Georgian goldwork, from the 3rdcentury BCE to the 4th century CE:

მუზეუმები

საქართველოს ეროვნული მუზეუმი 2004 წელს დაარსდა და ის დღეს ყველაზე დიდი სამუზეუმო გაერთიანებაა საქართველოში. მის შემადგენლობაშია: 11 მუზეუმი, ეროვნული გალერეა, 4 სახლ-მუზეუმი და 2 სამეცნიერო კვლევითი ცენტრი.

ეროვნულ მუზეუმში თავმოყრილია მრავალი კოლექცია: ევრაზიაში აღმოჩენილი უძველესი ადამიანის ნაშთები, უნიკალური არქეოლოგიური და ეთნოგრაფიული ნივთები, ბუნების ისტორიის ამსახველი მასალა, ქრისტიანული კულტურის მდიდარი მემკვიდრეობა – ჭედური და ფერწერული ხატები, ჯვრები, ნაქარგობა, ტიხრული მინანქარი; პირველხარისხოვანი აღმოსავლური ძეგლები, ნუმიზმატიკის მდიდარი კოლექცია, ოქროსა და ვერცხლის ნატიფი სამკაულები ანტიკური კოლხეთიდან, სხვადასხვა დროის ქართველი და ევროპელი მხატვრების შესანიშნავი ნამუშევრები.

სამუშაო საათები
საქართველოს ეროვნული მუზეუმი მუშაობს ყოველ დღე, გარდა ორშაბათისა და ოფიციალური დღესასწაულებისა.
სამშაბათი-კვირა 10:00-დან 18:00 საათამდე.
საგამოფენო დარბაზები იხურება 17:45 საათზე
